Dumbest thing I saw at the grocery store, this morning

About the only item I see on a more regular basis – selling into stupid fads based more on hype than substance – is “No Fat Half-and-half”.
How the frack can they call these things “Saltines” if there’s no salt on them?

I guess they could’ve just called them “ines.”
This reminds me of George Carlin pointing out oxymorons like “jumbo shrimp” and “plastic glasses.”

Fact is, the food industry LOVES the anti-fat, anti-salt, anti-trans-fat, [etc.] mantras. Always a new gimmick to put on the label! (And let’s not forget the “LITE” products.)
Currently, I’m waiting for the “no corn syrup!” labels to start showing up.
I was recently reading the food label for a “no sodium” version of a product. In its place, the company had added sugar and a couple of chemical preservatives. So I bought the regular salted version.
I read your recent food-as-medicine post/article, Eid, which was very good indeed. But first, I think people need to learn to recognize food as food, and what constitutes food. Sounds simple. Is simple. Yet most people don’t know the difference.
