Texas idiot governor calls for prayers to halt wildfires

Mr. Mouth calling for state sovereignty

Texas Governor Rick Perry called on Texans to pray for rain as cooler temperatures on Thursday helped firefighters contain wildfires that have charred more than 1.5 million acres across the state.

Perry, a Republican, sought increased federal help in combating the blazes last weekend and urged Texans to ask the same from a higher power over the Easter holiday weekend.

This is the same buffoon who endorses secession and states’ rights when his butt isn’t burning.

“Throughout our history, both as a state and as individuals, Texans have been strengthened, assured and lifted up through prayer,” Perry said in a statement. “It is fitting that Texans should join together in prayer to humbly seek an end to this ongoing drought and these devastating wildfires.”

A wave of moisture and cooler weather had already helped the roughly 1,800 firefighters and support crews contain nine fires and make headway against many more by Thursday morning. Mother Nature generally accomplishes more than ideology.

But conditions fueling the fast-moving wildfires that killed two volunteer firefighters and destroyed 200 homes this month would not ease for good, officials warned.

This silly-ass Kool Aid Party Republikan whines most of the year about Big Government. Except when he needs a hand-up or a hand-out.

Like most of the hustlers who currently own the Republican Party he’s a national-class hypocrite. That he calls upon his dimwit followers to exercise their fundamentalist superstitions to assuage the natural results of administrative incompetence – follows as night the day.

  1. Not sure how prayer will harm the cause of firefighting? Is the governor telling all to pray in church and let the fires burn? Forces of nature are not “mother” or any relation to the human species. Earthquakes, tsunami, tornado, volcano, etc. are violent events that big government will happen. Prayers are more of a community out pouring of emotion on their neighbors, relatives suffering or dead from the forces of nature beyond man’s control. The greater power beyond big government could be the Creator of the Universe. However, people like to delude themselves that they can control their immediate surroundings with humble or palatial housing. All can be brought down by fire, flood, earthquake, etc. You can pray or not pray. Big government certinaly did a lot for Gulf Oil leak where those employed on recovery efforts are now suffering chemical poisoning sent out without ventilators. And the settlement Czar Feingberg has paid out $3 billion from the $20 billion. Of course big government will put that money to use, only we will need to trust big government there was no theft, graft, or personal use of 85% of these funds never seen by the tax payers or the affected Gulf population.

    • About as close to the topic as you ever seem to get, bro’.

Point still reads to me that bible-thumping, freedom-loving hypocrites mostly populate the ranks of guvmint-haters – till you need help.

  2. I’ve known Eid long enough to know he assigns no more supernatural power to Mother Nature than he does to the silly-ass gods of fundamentalist breast-beaters either side of the planet.

But, Bo – I guess you figure taking time away from poorly planned and underfunded response to wildfire – to pray – is worth something. I don’t.

As for the rest of the rant wandering along the Gulf Coast, boring agitprop. Whether it’s provided by TV talking heads trying for better ratings, scientists from the single Gulf Coast University that specializes in negative findings or Republicans who hope to bring forward some good ol’ bigot like Haley Barbour as a presidential candidate.

Nope – I’ll stick with old-fashioned hobos who considered pie in the sky to be nothing more than a hustle. Most of the religious folks who spend time here are worth respecting for their attitude towards fellow human beings – without requiring obedience to ancient rituals or some dogmatic scheme.

    • When there is a fire or a earth quake don’t thinkg they are labeled Democrat, Republican, or Christian. You know how efficiently “government” responds to a crisis? Let’s see, we sent some folks to the Gulf Oil leak a week after it exploded and killed people! You want to wait for help like that? The state governor of Louisianna was instructed to stay out and wait for federal folks. He ignored the instruction and went to work. What is the worship of “big government”? The government priority was on yelling at BP, telling them to work faster, and asking for money before the people were helped in the Gulf. Foreign countries volunteered oil spill equipment and we refused!
In regard to the Texas fires, the Menominee Nation has the best firefighters in the USA. They have be on scene for the annual forest wildfires in California, because they refuse to clear dead scrub brush. The environmental idiots want to preserve a tinder box, so it can burn thousands of acres every year. The menominee manage hundreds of thousands of timber land, but they harvest, thin out, and sell wood that can be used. The alternative is to let nature run the California course of lightning ignition fires that burn up in smoke wood for no benefit. Don’t think big government in California can figure out how to prevent their annual forest fires.

      • California’s annual forest fires have little to do with liberal government and even less to do with enviros. Blame the corporate goons who pick up the tab for the Tea Party – starting with the logging companies and their timber industry cousins.

They wouldn’t trim a dandelion if they thought it might decrease their profits.

        • Suggest you tenderfoot environmentalists visit Menominee Wisconsin to see how the native American nation of Menominee handle forests with no forest fires, plenty of logging, and plenty of wildlife to hunt and kill for their families. Love to see you guys even attempt going into the wilderness, no Starbucks and no wifi.

          • Your ignorance prevails. One of the two tribes dumb enough to accept termination from Eisenhower, it took another Republican, Richard Nixon, to bring them back to sovereignty. They damned near went broke trying to make a living from their logging.

Now, they have the modern (white man’s) invention funding the tribe’s renewed efforts to afford a reasonable education, health care and housing. It’s called the Menominee Casino. Even then they had to rely on buck$ from the Mohegan tribe.

            Har.

          • Census says ~32% living below US poverty level.

Guess they’re still supposed to be happy, though.

          • You surely make some damned dumb assumptions. The last buck I brought home took one shot from a .357 magnum. That was while I still lived in the Navajo Nation – named by the bros I hunted with as “Who smiles like a bear”.

Been a handgun hunter for decades. That included small game with a .22 Ruger. Come from 3 generations of gunsmiths.

            • None of this Noble Savage/king of the open road horseshit means a damn about the topic. Just more examples of elitist individual crap about hiding from the responsibilities of a democracy. Big Government is just another ruse by cowards who can’t face participation by the whole nation in lawmaking.

              Losers.

  3. I was about to say you should watch something more than Fox Snooze; but, I don’t think you even do that. Sorry, dude – but, I don’t see much use in correcting every wrongheaded perception you have of the real world.

The Menominee Nation is good – and so are lots of other Hot Shot crews. Of the 70 or so around the country I know a half-dozen as good as the MN. Including a few family members.
