York council builds fence through goalposts – WTF?

Council bosses have admitted scoring an “own goal” after a fence was built through the middle of football goalposts in a park in York.
The new fencing was installed at a cost of £6,000 on playing fields in Heworth…
Dave Meigh, City of York Council’s head of parks and open spaces, said: “We recognise that the failure to relocate the goalposts is a real own goal.”
It has left local people who use the park to play football confused. Local residents said it was “unreal” and a “waste of money”.
Jane Hannon wrote on the BBC Look North Facebook page: “Typical example of too many chiefs and not enough Indians, one doesn’t know what the other is doing. What a waste of time and money.”
OTOH, this demonstrates there is plenty of local talent in the UK ready and qualified to take over leadership of the FA and FIFA at a moment’s notice.

This reminds me of our own local Park’s Board. Now, we do have to give them credit for giving a beautiful, well maintained park. Over the past few years there has been an explosion in our baseball and especially girls softball. There was one old field the T-Ball players used but had fallen into ruin. So they fixed it up, put up a new backstop and fences.
Only the fences are now blocking the only sledding run for tens of miles around. We live in a very flat plain here. This hill, small as it is, was the only place kids could go “sledding”. While we are very thankful for the field during ball season, the kids sure do miss “sledding” in the winter. There are some other hills around. Their problem is they are all treed and privately owned.
(As an aside, our kid was called up to play for the next level last night. She got a home run, single, and walk along with 3 RBIs in an 15-5 loss. This has nothing to do with the article but I’m darn proud of the kid!)

I’m not sure about Jane Hannon’s comment on this regarding the Chiefs and Indians.
Did none of the workmen actually doing the job never query it ?
