Gang leader busted in Mexico – gangs block roads in retaliation
An alleged leader of one of Mexico’s most powerful and violent drug cartels has been arrested.
Hector Raul Luna Luna is said to be the head of the Los Zetas gang in the north-eastern city of Monterrey, Mexico’s third largest city. Officials said on Wednesday he was captured by soldiers in a suburb of the city, which is a key industrial hub.
In response, gunmen hijacked cars and temporarily set up at least 10 roadblocks in Monterrey.
Convoys of armed men also attacked police stations, according to local reports…
The arrest brings to light the presence of organised crime in a city that used to be known as one of the safest in Latin America, the BBC’s Julian Miglierini in Monterrey reports…
Residents fear that the city – capital of Nuevo Leon state – has been drawn abruptly into the country’s drugs conflict, our correspondent adds.
And I add – where the frack are all the Mexican police and soldiers we hear about – patrolling the streets of Mexico?
These gangbangers steal cars, trucks and buses, block roads, fire on police stations with impunity. The corruption of Mexico is characterized by cowardice and complicity as much as anything else.
Man tries to hijack plane using plastic knife from meal tray

Egyptian security agents on Wednesday arrested a Sudanese man who tried to hijack an airliner armed with a plastic knife.
The passenger grabbed the knife from his meal tray after the Egypt Air plane left Turkish airspace bound for Cairo. He then demanded the crew divert the aircraft to Jerusalem.
Egyptian onboard security officers reacted immediately, calmed the passenger down and arrested him while the flight continued without disruption. No one was hurt in the incident.
It was not immediately clear what his motives were.
It also wasn’t clear whether he was smarter than your average hoe handle.

A man who hijacked a Mexican plane is a singing evangelical minister, marksman and martial arts whiz who friends nicknamed “Crazy” as he turned to religion to escape a life of drug addiction and petty thieving.
Bolivian-born Jose Mar Flores, 44, set off a national security alert on Wednesday when he hijacked a plane flying from Cancun to Mexico City. He wielded a Bible and fruit juice cans filled with earth and bound with silver tape and wires to look like bombs.
The AeroMexico plane landed safely and all on board escaped unhurt after a senior crew member reasoned with Flores, who read from his Bible, wept, prayed and said he needed to warn Mexican President Felipe Calderon of an impending earthquake.
“I love this nation, I love God’s people. I want us to pray because tremendous things are ahead,” Flores told reporters after his arrest. “There is only one way to avoid it — by uniting, by crying out wherever we are, whoever we are, whatever our religion, by begging God for this not to happen.”
Security Minister Genaro Garcia Luna said Flores told police he picked the attack for September 9, 2009 because the date 9-9-9 is the inverse of 6-6-6, a number associated with the devil, and that the Holy Spirit accompanied him on his mission. He has yet to be charged…

Naked man hijacks school bus

An angry, naked man hijacked a school bus of teenage students in Atlanta, driving it for less than a mile before it struck a wall off the road, police said.
Police said the man, 23-year-old Arris Pitmon, hoisted himself through an open window while the bus was stopped to let students disembark.
Police said students reported Pitmon seized control of the bus as the frightened driver ran to the back of the vehicle. While the bus was moving, the man abandoned the steering wheel and walked toward the back of the bus as well.
A student then moved toward the steering while, leading Pitmon to fight the student, CNN said. The driverless bus moved along the street until it left the roadway and crashed.
Students escaped, many using the emergency exit at the back of the bus, police said. Onlookers subdued the man until police arrived.
Are there more than a couple choices for motivation here?
Either the guy is a loonybird or he was chemically-stoned out of his mind.
BTW – witnesses said he wasn’t entirely naked. He was wearing a condom.

Pirates took just 16 minutes from boarding to seizing control of a $100-million laden Saudi oil super-tanker in the Indian Ocean.
The report also described the Sirius Star – with woeful defences, restricted manoeuverability and speed capacities owing to its 319,000-tonne oil cargo – as a lumbering prey for two speedboats carrying well-armed pirates also applying the element of surprise by operating well out of their normal range.
The Somali pirates approached the tanker, the length of three football fields, at 0648 GMT Saturday and were able to climb aboard using the simplest of rope and hook techniques.
At 0704 GMT, Britain’s Maritime Component Command centre in Bahrain reported that the tanker had been taken by the pirates.
Sounds like they could have been hijacked by the average wannabe gangbanger from El Paso.
