Czech fugitive – working in US max security prison
Interpol Poster
A man wanted in the Czech Republic for drug and fraud crimes has been arrested while working in the US – at a maximum security prison.
Michal Preclik, 32, had recently been promoted to the post of corporal, the Associated Press reports…
Nebraska officials said they carried out a full background check on Mr Preclik and the fact he was employed was “a concern”.
But Mr Preclik’s wife, Kari, told reporters her husband had been granted legal residency in the US after testifying in another case and that she could not understand why he had been arrested now.
They told him that his status was protected here, that whatever he had done in his past was eliminated
Mr Preclik is currently being held in another prison, where he is fighting possible deportation to the Czech Republic. The exact reason for his arrest has not been made public…
Officials said the state would be reviewing its employment policy and procedures.
Obviously, no one in Nebraska’s Correctional System is familiar with The Google.
Past as prologue: Could global warming double estimates?

No one knows exactly how much Earth’s climate will warm due to carbon emissions, but a new study suggests scientists’ best predictions about global warming might be incorrect.
The study, which appears in Nature Geoscience, found that climate models explain only about half of the heating that occurred during a well-documented period of rapid global warming in Earth’s ancient past. The study…contains an analysis of published records from a period of rapid climatic warming about 55 million years ago known as the Palaeocene-Eocene thermal maximum, or PETM.
“In a nutshell, theoretical models cannot explain what we observe in the geological record,” said oceanographer Gerald Dickens, a co-author of the study and professor of Earth science at Rice University. “There appears to be something fundamentally wrong with the way temperature and carbon are linked in climate models.”
During the PETM, for reasons that are still unknown, the amount of carbon in Earth’s atmosphere rose rapidly. For this reason, the PETM, which has been identified in hundreds of sediment core samples worldwide, is probably the best ancient climate analogue for present-day Earth.
In addition to rapidly rising levels of atmospheric carbon, global surface temperatures rose dramatically during the PETM. Average temperatures worldwide rose by about 7 degrees Celsius — about 13 degrees Fahrenheit — in the relatively short geological span of about 10,000 years…
Madoff sentenced to 150 years!

A federal judge sentenced Bernard L. Madoff to 150 years in prison on Monday for operating a huge Ponzi scheme that devastated thousands of people, calling his crimes “extraordinarily evil.”
In pronouncing the sentence — the maximum he could have handed down — Judge Denny Chin turned aside Mr. Madoff’s own assertions of remorse and rejected the suggestion from Mr. Madoff’s lawyers that there was a sense of “mob vengeance” surrounding calls for a long prison term.
“Objectively speaking, the fraud here was staggering,” the judge said. “It spanned more than 20 years.”
More than 20 years of the SEC abdicating their chartered responsibility.
NYC politicians will miss the annual donations, catered affairs at the penthouse, benefits at the country club. Politicians who could have made a difference over these decades – didn’t do a damned thing.
