An artist arrested for applying body paint to a nude model in New York’s Times Square will have charges against him dropped if his models strip naked only after dark, according to a court agreement.

Police arrested Andy Golub, 45, in July and charged him with violating public exposure and lewdness laws. He has been painting nude models for about three years.

Golub’s lawyer, Ronald Kuby, argued that New York laws do not prohibit public nudity in the name of art, and a compromise was reached that was the basis of the court ruling. Under the agreement, “he is permitted to paint bare breasts any time, anywhere, but the G-strings have to stay on until daylight goes out,” Kuby said after a hearing in Manhattan criminal court…

Golub, of Nyack, New York, said he likes to paint nude models because their bodies have energy and dynamism that he finds lacking in canvas.

“I feel that when I do live body painting it’s a good thing, a positive thing,” he said.

Charges against Golub will be dropped in six months if he abides by the terms of the agreement and is not arrested again. Charges against Karla Storie, a model from Texas arrested with him, will be dismissed if she too is not arrested again in the next six months.

Golub said he was planning to return to criminal court today and paint a nude model in a park near the courthouse. After the sun sets.

Voters in the town of Lead, South Dakota, have rejected a proposal that would have allowed nude dancing at bars in its historic downtown, a move supporters had said would give an economic boost to the struggling mining town.

The proposed easing of the state’s adult entertainment law was defeated by a vote of 535-303, Lead City Commissioner Casey Borsch said in a phone interview. He characterized turnout for the referendum as “considerably higher” than normal.

State law in South Dakota already permits nude dancing in bars — provided it does not take place within a quarter-mile of any residence, business or community gathering place.

But city commissioners in Lead, a town of about 3,000 near Deadwood in the Black Hills, voted in January to adopt a more lenient standard, eliminating the quarter-mile rule for their city by means of a special ordinance.

The commission acted after the owners of the Wild Thing Saloon on Main Street, located a few blocks from the town’s opera house and public library, brought in nude dancers for two days in December to see how popular it would be.

The event reportedly drew hundreds of extra visitors into Lead, best known as the site of the Homestake gold mine.

Opponents of the easing, which the commission passed 3-2, gathered enough signatures to put the ordinance to a public vote. On Tuesday, they prevailed.

Not the first time we’ve commented on laws – up or down – dealing with the topic. Since residents of the town seem to have spoken in democratic fashion, I presume there will be no attempt to legislate or litigate around that referendum, eh?

Zak Anthony King, 18, refused to stop when ordered to do so by police who spotted him on his liberal morning run.

When he began to outpace the sweating officers in West Melbourne, Florida, one threatened him with the Taser, which delivers an electric shock powerful enough to temporarily paralyse.

Within a fraction of a second of the barbs hitting his bottom, Mr King collapsed and was arrested, while cameras in a police car and on the immobiliser captured the moment.

The cameras also recorded sound and one officer can be heard reliving the incident only moments before, saying: “I’m like, ‘Don’t run, I’m gonna Tase you!’ So what does he do? He just keeps running.”

Mr King is suspected to have been drunk. He told the officers he had “super powers”.

Maybe his “super powers” don’t work when he isn’t wearing his cape? Or much else?

The sets are being trotted out in late November, early December. The cost: 7 large. Yup, $7,000…

Police have been criticised for refusing to arrest a man who harasses motorists in a lay-by wearing nothing but a yellow hard hat.

The man, labelled “naked Bob the Builder”, is a familiar sight at the Hog’s Back lay-by in Puttenham, near Guildford, Surrey – a popular location for “doggers”, people who take part in outdoor sexual encounters.

Earlier this year it was disclosed that police spent £124.93 on tea, coffee and biscuits for sexual adventurers at the site in an attempt to “build up trust” and encourage them to report “hate crimes”.

Yesterday it was reported that the unnamed hard hat wearer was questioned by police at the scene, but was not arrested and was soon back at the lay-by.

He had been reported for indecent exposure by a motorist, who was approached when he pulled over to get a bite to eat at the Hog’s Back Cafe. The man said he called police after the hard hat man started rubbing himself on his car window. The man, who did not want to be named, said: “I got out of the car, phoned the police and waited for them. I told them, I’m definitely giving a statement, I want this man done…

A spokesman for Surrey police said: “A statement will be taken from the victim as part of the ongoing investigation.” Insp Tim Shaw added: It is vitally important that any offences of anti-social behaviour in the area of the Hog’s Back lay-by are reported to police as soon as possible.

“This will allow an appropriate response to be provided to capture and secure evidence.”

Har! Seems to me if you capture and secure the flasher you don’t need much more.

Flight attendants owed up to nine months’ wages by a grounded Spanish airline have posed nude for a calendar to draw attention to their plight.

The calendar, numerous excerpts of which appeared in the Spanish media, shows the Air Comet attendants, all female, posing provocatively in and outside airline cabins, and in one case on top of a jet turbine.

“We are just demanding our rights to receive what is ours, we each have eight or nine months of unpaid salaries,” attendant Adriana Ricardo, who appears in the calendar, told Reuters.

Air Comet, run by the embattled chairman of Spain’s main employers’ association CEOE, Gerardo Ferran, filed for administration in December after a British court impounded nine of its aircraft at the request of German bank HSH Nordbank.

Erykah Badu shed her clothes as she walked along a Dallas, Texas, sidewalk until she was nude and then fell near where President Kennedy was assassinated.

The result was a controversial video, released Saturday, for her song “Window Seat,” which Badu said was “shot guerrilla style” with no crew and in one take March 17. Children could be seen nearby as Badu stripped in Dealey Plaza, a popular tourist spot since Kennedy’s 1963 assassination…

She tweeted that “there were children there. i prayed they wouldnt b traumatized.”

The R&B singer said she was making a statement against “groupthink,” which she tweeted was an “unwritten rule” that “i will not express my true opinion if it opposes those i love and fear…”

The video opens with a November 22, 1963, radio broadcast describing Kennedy’s motorcade turning onto Elm Street seconds before fatal shots were fired…

As she reached the spot where Kennedy was first struck by a bullet, the crackle of a gunshot is heard and Badu’s head snaps back and she falls to the ground as if dead.

Plainfield police said they have seized nine cell phones after a 16-year-old high school honors student took a nude photograph of herself and sent it to a male student.

The picture quickly went viral on campus, and a Plainfield East High School official contacted authorities last week, prompting what police are calling their largest-ever sexting investigation. In one sign of how quickly the photo spread, some of the original senders told police they had received it from other people last week, according to court documents.

Viewing the photograph and forwarding it are technically violations of child pornography statutes, though police and the Will County state’s attorney’s office say they typically handle such cases through juvenile probation. No one has been charged…

It’s not clear how many of Plainfield East’s roughly 1,300 students received or forwarded the photo, but it could easily number in the hundreds, police said…

Nine cell phones — including two that were already found to contain the photo — have been turned over to computer forensic specialists at the Will County Sheriff’s Department.

A school district spokesman declined to comment Wednesday, citing student privacy concerns. School board Vice President Roger Bonuchi said only that parents should warn their children against “doing immoral acts.”

Lots of interesting questions about freedom for teenagers. Stupidity certainly is a component.

Have to wonder how many members of the Plainfield PD now have copies of the photo on their own cellphones, eh?

Lionel, in the wrong place at the wrong time

A lobster has become a belated casualty of the Second World War after being blown up inside an unexploded mine.

The lobster, nicknamed Lionel, had made his home in the huge wartime bomb which had lay dormant on the seabed for more than 60 years.

The 600lb mine was stumbled upon by divers off Swanage, Dorset.

They took pictures of it and alerted Portland coastguard, who contacted the Royal Navy bomb disposal unit.

Navy divers inspected the device and found Lionel inside. The crustacean refused to be coaxed out of his make-shift house and delivered a nasty nip to the frogmen.

The bomb squad had no choice but to set charges to the mine with Lionel still inside and, after setting up a 1,000m cordon, blew it up….

“It is a Second World War mine, which was dropped by the Germans and has lain there unseen for over 60 years,” [a spokesman for Portland coastguard said].

The ethicists, of course, would have insisted on capturing and eating him.
