Passerby – and cafe awning saves baby in seven-storey fall

with one comment

A 15-month-old baby girl survived a fall from a seventh-floor apartment in Paris almost unscathed after bouncing off a cafe awning and into the arms of a passer-by…

The infant had been playing unsupervised with her four-year-old sister Monday when she somehow fell out of the window, a spokesman for local city police said.

A young man saw the baby starting to fall and alerted his father, who raced to get into position, arms outstretched, to catch her after she hit the awning, the daily Le Parisien reported…

Police said the girl appeared to have no serious injuries and was under observation in a nearby hospital.

The owner of the cafe, located at the foot of the block of flats in the northeast of Paris, said it was a stroke of luck he had decided to leave the awning open that afternoon…

The police spokesman said the circumstances behind the accident were unclear. “The parents were absent, and it’s a bit difficult questioning the two girls, given their age.”

Wow. That is one very lucky little kid. She probably won’t realize the danger she survived until she’s much older.

Three-year-old boy found abandoned in car for a day

Authorities say a 3-year-old boy who was lost by his drunk father and found strapped into his car seat about 25 hours later in Pasadena has been placed in protective custody.

Dylan Kurihara was found late Sunday night in a parking structure in the area of Madison Avenue and Green Street, just blocks away from where he was lost, according to the Pasadena Police Department.

Rowdy Metzger, a Pasadena resident, saw and recognized the boy inside his father’s missing silver 2001 Lexus four-door sedan and called authorities…”I tapped on the window, it woke him up. The door was open. I opened it. He got a little scared. I called out his name. I told him it was going to be okay,” Metzger told KTLA.

“I kept giving a thumb’s up signal because I didn’t know if he would understand me, if he was in shock or whatever. I called 911. I just kept talking to him until the police came,” he added.

The boy was a little dehydrated and covered in urine, but otherwise in good condition.

He was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital for evaluation and was later placed into protective custody, police said…

Police were made aware of the missing child when his mother woke up at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, discovered him missing and called police.

Joe Kurihara was being held on $10,000 bail on suspicion of felony child endangerment.

Drunk and stupid. Not necessarily in that order.

He was arrested for drunkenness before the discovery of his son – and he didn’t remember that his son had been with him.

A man threatening to commit suicide by jumping from a Chinese bridge was approached by a passer-by who shoved him over the edge.

Lai Jiansheng, 66, said he was fed up with the desperate man’s “selfish activity” which caused huge traffic jams in Guangzhou, southern China.

Chen Fuchao fell 26ft onto an air cushion and is recovering in hospital, the official Xinhua news agency said.

Xinhua said Mr Lai was “taken away by police”, but gave no further details.

Traffic around the bridge was stopped for five hours while officers tried to coax Mr Chen to safety.

Retired soldier Mr Lai at first volunteered to try to talk Mr Chen down but was turned away by police, Xinhua said.

Mr Lai is said to have then broken through the police cordon, climbed to where Mr Chen sat, greeted him with a handshake – and then pushed him off the edge.

Mr. Lai saluted the crowd after Chen fell onto the emergency air cushion.
