The chief Angry Bird says — piracy is good for business!

The chief executive of the company behind mobile gaming phenomenon, Angry Birds, has said that piracy helps companies attract more business.
Talking at the annual Midem music conference, in Cannes today, Mikael Hed, the chief executive of Rovio, said: “Piracy may not be a bad thing: it can get us more business at the end of the day.”
He admitted that the games company, which is based in Finland and experienced huge success with the Angry Birds brand, learned from the music industry’s mistakes when thinking about how to deal with piracy…
“We could learn a lot from the music industry, and the rather terrible ways the music industry has tried to combat piracy…”
Hed told Midem delegates that it was futile to pursue people who copy Angry Birds’ games and concepts unless they were harmful to the brand reported The Guardian. He said that he sees any type of piracy as being helpful to the brand in attracting new fans.
Not anything that serious geeks haven’t been discussing – and agreeing with – for years. The failure of the music and movie moguls to understand the Web and digital communications started this discussion – even before piracy became significant. They get the prize for dumb greed when it comes to dealing with intellectual property, anyway. Mostly for screwing creative artists all along.
What should the wife of a Rovio Exec wear to the Presidential Palace celebrating Finland’s Independence Day?

Who says Angry Birds and black tie can’t mix?
Teija Vesterbacka, wife of Rovio CMO Peter Vesterbacka, showed up at the Finnish Presidential Palace for an event on Dec. 6 draped head to toe in Angry Birds. Rovio, a Finnish computer game developer, brought the addictive cell phone game to life back in Dec. 2009.
To anyone unfamiliar with the mobile fad, Teija’s red one-shouldered gown could pass for an artistic, geometrical design. For those who have not been living under a rock for the past two years, the bust features the unmistakable glare of the game’s Red Bird…
The Castle Ball, held each year in honor of the country’s Independence Day, is broadcast on national TV with approximately 2,000 guests in attendance.
Rock on, Teija!
Rovio reveals Angry Birds played for 300 million minutes per day

Angry Birds, the hugely popular mobile phone game, is played by 30 million people every day for a total of 300 million minutes, its creators have revealed.
The simple game, which is made by Rovio, a Finnish company, is played by around 130 million people every month.
The figures were announced by Andrew Stalbow, Rovio’s American chief at the annual Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco…
Stalbow said that company was now focusing building a “next generation digital entertainment company” and growing the game into a “big entertainment franchise”. Rovio’s new ventures are set to include an Angry Birds cookbook of egg recipes. In Angry Birds, the birds are angry because their eggs have been stolen by the pigs.
Stalbow also confirmed to The Telegraph that the Angry Birds movie is slated for release in 2014, after a series of cartoons have been released…
The company’s second largest market after the US is now China, where both the game and merchandise such as toys and jumpers are hugely popular.
Obviously, with this number of people enjoying the game instead of their job or studies – it must be the work of the AntiChrist. Or at least someone who doesn’t vote Republican/Tory/Conservative.
