260 animals have gay tendencies but only humans are homophobic!

Stephen Fry has denounced critics of same sex marriages claiming there are 260 animal species that have gay tendencies but only humans are homophobic.

The author, actor and presenter also accused the Church of England of caving in to “screeching” extremists who he claims have spread lies about gay marriage.

Fry, who is gay, spoke out in a new video, for the Out4Marriage campaign, which has persuaded a string of celebrities and politicians to back its calls for reform.

During a three minute monologue, he says gay people “used to be regarded as villains because we were so bohemian and outrageous and we eschewed family values, but we’re not.

“We’re human beings like everybody else and we believe first and foremost in love.

“At least 260 species of animal have been noted exhibiting homosexual behaviour but only one species of animal ever, so far as we know, has exhibited homophobic behaviour — and that’s the human being.

Joseph Musgrave, for the Out4Marriage campaign, said “Stephen Fry has brought his own inimitable style to a point we have long sought to clarify.

“No religious group should be in any way forced to conduct or solemnise same-sex marriages.

Of course not. And the overwhelming majority of civil rights, gay rights organizations, feel the same.

Hypocrites and homophobes who persist in inventing straw man arguments against civil rights for the LGBT community persist in creating heavy demands upon their puny souls – that don’t exist. It’s like Oklahoma Republicans passing laws banning sharia law in the state – when virtually no modern Muslim in any American state, in any nation, would ever propose such a thing.

Folks should stop peering under their bed for things that go boomp in the night. All the truly scary crap is in your own mind.

French beekeepers alarmed over bees producing blue honey

Beekeepers in northeastern France have been alarmed to find their bees producing honey in unnatural shades of green and blue.

The beekeepers believe the source of the problem is a biogas plant close to Ribeauville in Alsace.

It is thought the bees have been eating the sugary waste from M&Ms

“We discovered the problem at the same time [the beekeepers] did. We quickly put in place a procedure to stop it,” Philippe Meinrad, a spokesman from Agrivalor, the company operating the biogas plant…

The company, which deals with waste from a Mars chocolate factory, said it would clean out the containers, store all incoming waste in airtight containers and process it promptly, according to a company statement published in Le Monde newspaper…

A spokeswoman for the British Beekeepers’ Association, Gill Maclean, said it was possible that the coloured sugar could have contaminated the honey…

“Bees are clever enough to know where the best sources of sugar are, if there are no others available,” she said.

The beekeepers say their blue honey is unsellable. Boy, are they wrong. Advertise it on the Web and crazy people like me would buy it. Use it for topping vanilla ice cream or some silly cupcake. Probably could sell the entire inventory to some breakfast chain.

Dutch abortion ship blocked from first visit to a Muslim country

A Dutch campaign group says its ship offering women medical abortions has been prevented by authorities from entering the Moroccan port of Smir.

The group, Women on Waves, provides abortions and advice from boats anchored in international waters near countries where abortion is illegal…

Women on Waves has said it was invited to Morocco by a youth group called Alternative Movement for Individual Freedoms.

But the country’s health ministry said on Wednesday that the ship would not be allowed to operate in the country and called on the authorities to apply the law against the group and the ship…

In an earlier press release the group said the ship was able to provide legal medical abortions for women who are up to six-and-a-half weeks pregnant, while it was anchored in international waters.

The group’s main intention was to promote the fact that an abortion-inducement drug is actually available to women in Morocco, but most of them were unaware of it, the group said.

Women on Waves said it has also launched a hotline number for women to obtain information about contraception and abortion…

Over the past 11 years, a Women on Waves ship has visited Ireland, Poland, Portugal and Spain, sparking protests from anti-abortion groups.

Morocco was the first Muslim country the group planned to visit.

I look forward to an invitation being issued by women’s groups in Mississippi inviting Women on Waves to anchor off Biloxi some time in the future. I doubt that enlightened self-interest will help that benighted state turn away from the reactionary path their state government has chosen.

Republicans attack Democrat for playing World of Warcraft

Democrat candidate

The gaming hobby of a political candidate has become an issue in a state senate race in New England…

Maine Republicans have created a webpage revealing that Democrat candidate Colleen Lachowicz plays an orc rogue in World of Warcraft (WoW). Ms Lachowicz’s liking for back-stabbing and poison in WoW raise questions about her “fitness for office”, they claim.

Ms Lachowicz has hit back saying the attack showed the Republicans were “out of touch”.

Republican candidate

The state senate seat known as District 25 in Maine, is currently being contested by Ms Lachowicz and incumbent Republican Tom Martin.

As part of its campaign efforts, the Republican party in the state created “Colleen’s World” – a website that compiles information about Ms Lachowicz’s orc rogue Santiaga. An orc is a mythical human-like creature, generally described as fierce and combative.

In a statement that accompanies the webpage, Maine Republicans said playing the game led Ms Lachowicz to live a “bizarre double life” that raised questions about her ability to represent the state.

The page also detailed some of the comments Ms Lachowicz has made while talking about her orc rogue, in particular it highlights her affection for Santiaga’s ability to stab things and kill people without suffering a jail sentence.

“I think it’s weird that I’m being targeted for playing online games,” said Ms Lachowicz in a statement. “Apparently I’m in good company since there are 183 million other Americans who also enjoy online games.

“Instead of talking about what they’re doing for Maine people, they’re making fun of me for playing video games,” said Ms Lachowicz.

The Party-formerly-known-as-Republican demonstrates once again they have wandered off into a time warp and are definitely stuck into the 19th Century. This time, in addition to the usual bigotries they endorse, they have added their fear and hatred of gamers and geeks.
