Dumb crook of the day tries to teach her 8-year-old to be a thief

A respected American tradition – in some places

A New Orleans woman allegedly used her 8-year-old son in an unsuccessful attempt to break into an acquaintance’s house, police say.

Tajhma Deary, 32, was arrested last week, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported. In addition to burglary, she is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Investigators said the alleged victim recognized Deary from a security camera tape because she had dated his son.

Deary allegedly brought her son to the house and showed him how to stick his arm through the mail slot in an attempt to unlock the front door. When that failed, investigators said, she climbed a fence and tried to get in through a window.

Before she left, she sabotaged one surveillance camera, police said. But one she did not get allegedly shows her son at the front door, investigators said.

The tape shows the “minor place his right arm inside the mail slot to make several attempts at unlocking the locks on the door while the female stands nearby offering assistance to the minor,” the arrest warrant said.

Hey, mom – when the city tries to take your kid away – do him a favor and shut up!

Make the Sandy Hook Promise

Xmas stockings for dead children

Parents of children slain in the Connecticut school massacre held photos of their sons and daughters, cried, hugged and spoke in quavering voices as they called for a national dialogue to help prevent similar tragedies.

“I do not want to be someone sharing my experience and consoling another parent next time. I do not want there to be a next time,” said Nicole Hockley, whose son Dylan was among the 20 first-graders and six adults killed by a gunman a month ago at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Members of the newly formed group Sandy Hook Promise spoke out as politicians from Maine to New Mexico marked the one month that has passed since the shooting with renewed demands for tighter gun control.

The Sandy Hook group says it wants to have open-minded discussions about a range of issues, including guns, mental health and safety in schools and other public places…

“We want the Sandy Hook school shootings to be recalled as the turning point where we brought our community and communities across the nation together and set a real course for change,” said group co-founder Tom Bittman…

…In Cranford, N.J., a group of mayors backing new restrictions were joined by a man whose 23-year-old son was shot to death in the 2007 massacre at Virginia Tech.

“I’m just one member of a Virginia Tech family, Newtown has theirs, Aurora has theirs, Tucson has theirs, and now we’re starting to come together,” Michael Pohle said. “This coalition is growing, and it’s going to become more powerful, and we’re going to have the ability to influence elections as well…”

It appears that despite protestations to the contrary, the Republican Party will carry on in the same vein as their recent electoral platform. Just as they attacked women’s rights, civil rights for the LGBT community, just as they would diminish the role of education and science in society, they are uniting behind the worst elements of the Gun Lobby.

Profits – once again – take precedence over human rights in the eyes of what used to be a responsible party. Relying on the demented cowards who fear government, furriners and atheists are about to invade their McMansions – the Republican Party has decided it is their responsibility in every state to oppose any sensible regulation of guns.

The shame is theirs. The responsibility to remember Sandy Hook is ours.

Obama’s campaign machine turns to policy – still outside the Democratic Party

A new political operation created to advance President Obama’s agenda in his second term will be allowed to raise unlimited money and accept corporate contributions, but officials said Friday the donations will be disclosed.

Obama for America, the organization that mobilized the president’s army of supporters during his two races for the White House, now has a new name: Organizing for Action. The aim of the group, which will be overseen by a small inner circle of former campaign advisers, will be to promote Mr. Obama’s policies and to give Democratic activists and other allies a way to rally behind his agenda.

The group’s chairman will be Jim Messina, the president’s campaign manager in 2012. He said Friday that the grass-roots effort would start by tackling gun control, immigration and climate change and would operate under the same financing rules as the president’s inauguration committee, which accepts corporate contributions…

Organizing for Action, which will be tax-exempt, can draw upon unlimited donations to take advantage of a muscular campaign apparatus that includes millions of Obama supporters. The group is planning to run television advertisements in a campaign-style effort to push the president’s initiatives.

“It’s not focused on politics,” Mr. Messina said. “It’s on supporting the legislative agenda…”

The leadership of the group will include Robert Gibbs, the president’s longtime confidant and former White House press secretary, as well as Stephanie Cutter, Jennifer O’Malley Dillon and Julianna Smoot, three deputy campaign managers. Jon Carson, who left the White House this week after serving in the Office of Community Engagement, will be the group’s executive director.

While the Republican Party is busy crapping their drawers – in between trips to kneel before Rush Limbaugh, the NRA and several nutball religious foundations – serious political analysts are engaged with a single question. Will this organization continue as independent of the Democratic Party after Obama’s second term or will it be folded into the party apparatus?
