6 years, 720,000 photos, to capture this perfect picture of a diving bird

This is the shot that Scottish photographer Alan McFadyen spent 4,200 hours and 720,000 exposures trying to capture over the span of six years. It’s a female kingfisher diving for a fish, just as its beak breaks the water’s surface.

Worth every minute.
