We have our first verified voter fraud of the 2016 election — a trump voter!

❝ A woman in Iowa was arrested this week on suspicion of voting twice in the general election, court and police records show.

Terri Lynn Rote, a 55-year-old Des Moines resident, was booked Thursday on a first-degree charge of election misconduct, according to Polk County Jail records. The charge is considered a Class D felony under Iowa state law.

❝ …Rote is a registered Republican who cast two ballots in the general election: an early-voting ballot at the Polk County Election Office and another at a county satellite voting location…

Rote hadn’t planned on voting twice but said it was “a spur-of-the-moment thing” when she walked by the satellite voting location…

❝ She added she has been a supporter of Donald Trump since early in his campaign, after Republican candidate Mike Huckabee dropped out of the primary race.

Rote told Iowa Public Radio that she cast her first ballot for Trump but feared it would be changed to a vote for Hillary Clinton.

“The polls are rigged,” Rote told the radio station.

❝ Polk County Auditor Jamie Fitzgerald told the Register that it was the first time in 12 years he could remember having to report possible voter fraud.

I hope you don’t expect reality to interfere with nutball ideology. Trumpkins are perfectly happy with their ever-changing system of logic, belief and obedience.

Seriously?

Just got to viewing this song, this lovely set, this morning. Good friends have been suggesting it to me since it was released. Just got to it.

It’s the time of the year allowed by Congressional bureaucrats for geezers like me – and younger, even early, retirees like my wife – to sort out healthcare coverage. Since our system is still wholly in the hands of the greediest capitalists on American soil [outside of their cousins in Big Pharma], the Barons of Insurance, we have only a choice of how much we are screwed.

It takes a lot of time to sort.

But, this video is lovely. It says everything most educated/self-educated people feel – in a more polite fashion than I am capable of. I’m old enough that I just don’t care much anymore about being polite to folks who are only trying to choose between ignorance and stupidity.

The oldest, thickest Arctic sea ice is melting away – shrinking the expanse of sea ice

❝ Arctic sea ice, the vast sheath of frozen seawater floating on the Arctic Ocean and its neighboring seas, has been hit with a double whammy over the past decades: as its extent shrunk, the oldest and thickest ice has either thinned or melted away, leaving the sea ice cap more vulnerable to the warming ocean and atmosphere…

❝ Direct measurements of sea ice thickness are sporadic and incomplete across the Arctic, so scientists have developed estimates of sea ice age and tracked their evolution from 1984 to the present. Now, a new NASA visualization of the age of Arctic sea ice shows how sea ice has been growing and shrinking, spinning, melting in place and drifting out of the Arctic for the past three decades.

“Ice age is a good analog for ice thickness because basically, as ice gets older it gets thicker,” Walt Meier said. “This is due to the ice generally growing more in the winter than it melts in the summer.”

❝ The new animation shows two main bursts of thick ice loss: the first one, starting in 1989 and lasting a few years, was due to a switch in the Arctic Oscillation, an atmospheric circulation pattern, which shrunk the Beaufort Gyre and enhanced the Transpolar Drift Stream, flushing more sea ice than usual out of the Arctic. The second peak in ice loss started in the mid-2000s…

“We’ve lost most of the older ice: In the 1980s, multiyear ice made up 20 percent of the sea ice cover. Now it’s only about 3 percent,” Meier said. “The older ice was like the insurance policy of the Arctic sea ice pack: as we lose it, the likelihood for a largely ice-free summer in the Arctic increases.”

Science, knowledge, marches on inevitably. Hopefully, our understanding keeps pace. That understanding comes with an imperative to aid increasing knowledge in supplanting older, sometimes spurious understanding.

Six seconds of porn is more than enough time for most people to enjoy themselves — Huh? Wha?

❝ Vine will not be left to shrivel up and die on itself, not if Pornhub has anything to say about it.

Earlier on Thursday Twitter announced it was ending Vine’s short run, and the adult site was quick to come to the rescue…maybe.

❝ In a letter from Pornhub VP Corey Price to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey that was shared with CNET, Price lays out the rationale:

“We figure since Twitter has dropped (Vine) and is having significant layoffs, that you and your stakeholders could benefit from a cash infusion from the sale of Vine. Not to mention we would be saving Vine gems like ‘Damn Daniel,’ ‘Awkward Puppets’ and many more.”

Pornhub also promises to “restore Vine to Its NSFW glory,” saying that clips “of porn in six seconds is more than enough time for most people to enjoy themselves.”

❝ Uh…yeah…

❝ …Who knows, maybe Twitter will be willing to deal with Pornhub. Let’s just hope it doesn’t lead to a rash of six-second naked prank vids; that might be the only thing worse than killing off Vine.

CNET’s analysis of financial news is probably the only thing worse than their product reviews. Still, they made it to the humor plateau. Poisonally, I doubt the PornHub folks are kidding or foolish. Unlike most adult industrial nations in the mainstream of Western constitutional democracy the United States still defines most ethics by the morality stored in the fundamentalist Christian guidebook originated to the designs of a 17th Century monarch.

The most successful pornographers know better than that.

Thanks, Om

Black Trump supporter called a thug, booted from campaign rally — Trump presumes he’s a protestor

Cary being removed from the Trump rally

❝ C.J. Cary really loves Donald Trump. He has loved him for years, and he really wants him to be president. On Wednesday night, the 63-year-old came to a Trump rally in Kinston, North Carolina, determined to pass his candidate a note of advice: stop being so offensive on the campaign trail to women, minorities, and people with disabilities, or else “lying Hillary” will defeat him.

❝ According to the Charlotte Observer, Trump spotted Cary, wearing sunglasses and a bright red shirt, after he had made his way to about 30 feet from the stage and began waving his note in the air while shouting “Donald!”

Oh, did we mention Cary is black? He is.

❝ Anyway, Trump mistook Cary for a protester. Trump addressed him directly from the podium: “We have a protester!” he said…Trump then said this to Cary: “By the way, were you paid $1,500 to be a thug?”

Thug! Thug. $1,500. Thug.

❝ As the crowd erupted into chants of “Trump! Trump! Trump!” the candidate instructed his security team, as he usually does when there’s a disturbance at one of his events: “You can get him out. Get him out.”…

About the most support Trump gets from likely voters in the Black community is 4%. I’m surprised there are that many fools willing to sell out.

Trumpkins want to repeal the 19th Amendment — end women’s right to vote

❝ A group of Donald Trump supporters has begun using the Twitter hashtag #repealthe19th after a map showed he would win the election if only men voted.

❝ The thought experiment from fivethirtyeight.com came after Trump’s 2005 comments about sexually assaulting women became public…Despite the candidate’s dramatic poll slip since, a revised electoral college showed he would beat Hillary Clinton 350 to 188 if the 19th Amendment had not been ratified in 1920.

The #repealthe19th tag was used last month, though the map brought out a new crop of people who want to make a Y chromosome mandatory at the ballot box.

❝ “Give out nice enough handbags and most broads would gladly trade their voting rights for one. #repealthe19th,” user Michael Maier posted Tuesday.

“I would gladly waive my right to vote to solidify the win! #TrumpPence2016 #NeverHillary,” Lilo313 said.

❝ After a Los Angeles Times article brought attention to the vile viral trend, the vast majority of tweets came from social media users disgusted by the sexist fantasy.

“First they wanted to take us back to the 1950s … now they want to take us back to the 1850s?!” pro-choice group NARAL posted.

Which is what reactionary politics is all about. Fools gullible enough to think progress is harmful to their poor, demented lives. Perish the thought they consider someone else’s life as important as their own egregious little meat swamp.

Sugar pills work as well as leading prescribed drugs on juvenile migraine — and no side effects

❝ Sugar pills worked as well at preventing kids’ migraines as two commonly used headache medicines, but had fewer side effects, in a study that may lead doctors to rethink how they treat a common ailment in children and teens.

It’s the first rigorous head-to-head test in kids of two generic prescription drugs also used for adults’ migraines: topiramate, an anti-seizure medicine, and amitriptyline, an anti-depressant. The idea was to see if either drug could reduce by half the number of days kids had migraines over a month’s time. Both drugs worked that well — but so did placebo sugar pills.

❝ The study was released online Thursday in the New England Journal of Medicine. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and National Institute of Child Health and Human Development paid for the research.

“The fact that it shows that two of the most commonly used medications are no more effective than a placebo and have adverse effects makes a very clear statement,” said Dr. Leon Epstein…He said it should lead neurologists to rely on other prevention strategies; he advises lifestyle changes including getting more sleep and reducing stress, which he said can help prevent migraines in teen patients…

❝ Side effects from the drugs were common, including fatigue, dry mouth and forgetfulness. Almost one-third of kids on topiramate also had tingling sensations in their hands, arms, legs or feet. There was one suicide attempt in the topiramate group, another known side-effect of that drug.

The side effects were not unexpected, but given the risks, the results suggest the drugs shouldn’t be “first-line prevention treatments” for kids’ migraines, study author Scott Powers said.

Sad commentary on much of American medicine: inadequate testing to determine effectiveness – lax IMHO. Drug manufacturers are essentially focused on achieving at least a minimal positive effect – while not killing the patient – and providing the highest possible profit margin.
