The co-founder of the opposition research firm behind the Trump dossier testified to Congress earlier this month that he believed Russian operatives have infiltrated the National Rifle Association. http://dailycaller.com/2017/11/22/fusion-gps-founder-told-congress-that-russians-had-infiltrated-the-nra/

The NRA’s opposition to gun control has only a few decades old according to Adam Winkler author of the book ‘Gunfight: The Battle Over the Right to Bear Arms in America’. “Historically,” writes Winkler, “the leadership of the NRA was more open-minded about gun control than someone familiar with the modern NRA might imagine.” Not only did the NRA support gun control for much of the 20th century, its leadership in fact lobbied for and co-authored gun control legislation. http://time.com/4431356/nra-gun-control-history/

LaPierre said the NRA will provide support and guidance on how schools can protect themselves free of charge. He didn’t directly address Trump’s tweets or positions in his speech while warning “you should be anxious and you should be frightened” about the potential of another Democratic takeover of the House, Senate and White House.”
LaPierre’s base salary exceeds $1 million. He reportedly made more than $5 million in 2015, once his bonus was taken into account. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2017/02/09/nra-chief-executive-received-nearly-4-million-retirement-payout-in-2015/?utm_term=.987910e411b1 Only the U.S. and Yemen have more guns per capita then the Swiss. Even though their gun laws are relatively liberal crime there is low and in the past 10 years guns were used in less than 120 homicides. Also Switzerland hasn’t seen a mass shooting since 2001. Why? https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2018/02/21/switzerland-loves-its-guns-but-mass-shootings-rare/358500002/ “CNN makes history with stunning event on gun violence” (annotated video) https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/wp/2018/02/22/cnn-makes-history-with-stunning-event-on-gun-violence/?utm_term=.06588a341c27

  3. Puzzling Evidence™ says:

People are injured by firearms every day, but fewer gun-related injuries per capita happen during a certain yearly event: the National Rifle Association (NRA) Annual Meetings and Exhibits, according to a new study that looked at eight years’ worth of data. https://www.livescience.com/61892-firearm-injuries-nra-conventions.html
A team of scientists spearheaded the research, published today (Feb. 28) in The New England Journal of Medicine http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc1712773 , after wondering whether the attendance of more than 80,000 people at the conference every year led to a drop in firearm injuries during convention days. They investigated the idea by comparing hospital records for firearm injuries during convention days to the same number of days three weeks before and after the convention. The results were striking: From 2007 through 2015, gun injuries fell by about 20 percent on NRA convention days compared with the days in the surrounding weeks, said study lead researcher Dr. Anupam Jena, an associate professor of health care policy and medicine at Harvard Medical School and a physician at Massachusetts General Hospital.

  4. Chain of fools says:

“The NRA today is a far cry from the NRA that in 1999 said that teachers shouldn’t carry weapons in schools, or in the 90’s said we should have universal background checks. They have in essence become a terrorist organization.” Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy (D) http://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/377120-conn-governor-nra-is-a-terrorist-organization Malloy was governor during the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., and has pushed for stricter gun laws in the years since then.

“March For Our Lives is backed by radicals with a history of violent threats, language and actions.” National Rifle Association on Wednesday, March 21st, 2018 in a segment on NRATV http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2018/mar/23/national-rifle-association/nra-says-violent-radicals-are-behind-march-our-liv/ A guide to NRATV https://www.mediamatters.org/research/2017/08/28/guide-nratv-nras-news-outlet-hybrid-breitbart-and-infowars/217768
The National Rifle Association has released a video containing a threatening message to journalists, warning them “your time is running out” : In a video posted on Twitter by NRATV, conservative political activist and TV host Dana Loesch tells “every lying member of the media” that they have “had enough”. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/nra-video-threatens-journalists-gun-laws-us-florida-shooting-twitter-dana-loesch-a8240341.html

“Did the NRA’s Dana Loesch Just Admit to Tax Fraud?” https://medium.com/@SIIPCampaigns/did-the-nras-dana-loesch-just-admit-to-tax-fraud-cc8c6e1c86fd “The NRA files itself as a tax exempt 501c(3). That means despite boasting a revenue of over $335,000,000 annually, they don’t pay taxes. Not a penny. How does that work? It’s relatively simple. You ignore the federal tax code and you file your taxes using an 990 form to claim 501c(3) status).
According to the IRS: “To be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, an organization must be organized and operated exclusively for exempt purposes set forth in section 501(c)(3), and none of its earnings may inure to any private shareholder or individual. In addition, it may not be an action organization, i.e., it may not attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities and it may not participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates.” https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/charitable-organizations/exemption-requirements-section-501c3-organizations
