Former Republican Party Builder: “The Party of Trump Must Be Obliterated. Annihilated. Destroyed”

❝ Steve Schmidt has worked at the highest levels of Republican politics. He helped run George W. Bush’s 2004 presidential campaign and oversaw the confirmations of Supreme Court Justices John Roberts and Samuel Alito. He led Sen. John McCain’s ’08 presidential bid and helped introduce Sarah Palin to the world. The American Association of Political Consultants once named him its “GOP Campaign Manager of the Year.”

❝ But today, Schmidt is finished with the Republican Party. He renounced his membership last week in a series of withering tweets that quickly went viral. Under Trump, he wrote, the party had become “corrupt, indecent, and immoral.” With the exception of a select few, the GOP was “filled with feckless cowards who disgrace and dishonor the legacies of the party’s greatest leaders.” He pointed to the Trump administration’s family separation policy and use of detention centers for young immigrant children – “internment camps for babies” – and the refusal of House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to repudiate the president.

I used to know folks in the Republican Party who lived up to principles of truth, democracy. They all left.

It’s a pretty rough crowd. The administration is inept. When Trump leaves someone else will take control. We will see if they will be any better. Nothing now to indicate they will be.

Do I really believe there is nothing to indicate Trump’s successor will be any better? Let’s put it this way, as bad as Trump is, there are people who ocould do worse. I not sure but I think Pence might be worse. He is crazier than Trump. He is quieter but more insane. Maybe my statement was to pessimistic but I am just filled with a lot of hope they way things have been going.

Sounds like you’re fixin’ to roll over and die – that’s cool pops, but many of us are still trying to move the ball down field.
Hopelessness attacks the psychological resilience and self-confidence that meaningful responses to threatening circumstances require and in doing so generates the disorganized reactive impulses and fearful state of confusion that enables the manipulation of consciousness and behavior the fifth columnists in our country have been working so hard to produce.

Thanks for pointing that out. That last sentence has a lot of words. Can you say all that with one breath? You sound like a neurologist. Or a Wiccan. I know some of both and they sound a lot alike.

“I’ve Seen the Future of a Republican Party That’s Not Insane” By Jonathan Chait Today’s GOP needs to die in a fire. The Niskanen Center has a plan for what comes next. (Re: Niskanen Center see )
“The pathological character of the Republican Party is the most important problem in American politics. It has taken decades to develop to its current deformed state, and will not be solved quickly. There is no way to imagine the current incarnation of the GOP getting to the place Niskanen envisions any time soon. Niskanen’s manifesto contains multiple points of overlap with the prevailing orientation of the Democratic Party, and almost none with the prevailing orientation of the Republican Party. One can imagine a future in which the Democrats move toward socialism, opening a void in the center for the ideas espoused by Niskanen to take hold in something that perhaps shares the name, but otherwise none of the important ideological traits, of today’s Republican Party.
That distant point probably lies years, even decades, away. It can only happen after today’s Republican Party is destroyed, rendered incapable of wielding power at the national level, and its governing philosophy discredited completely. The Niskanen Center is the one institution planning for what can follow after the cleansing fire.”
