“Most members of the U.S. Postal Service’s board of governors, who were responsible for selecting Louis DeJoy as postmaster general, have numerous ties to the Republican Party as well as to President Donald Trump’s associates and administration.
The White House and the USPS did not return a request for comment after CNBC laid out the details reported in this story.
DeJoy and USPS Board of Governors Chairman Robert Duncan are slated to head to Capitol Hill to face lawmakers. DeJoy will face the Republican-led Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Friday. Monday he and Duncan will testify before the Democratic-led House Oversight Committee about the cost cutting measures that may impact the election.” https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/17/usps-chief-louis-dejoy-agrees-to-testify-before-congress-next-week-democrats-say.html
Monday morning, in an interview with “Fox and Friends,” Trump slammed the agency as “one of the disasters of the world.”
“I’m just making it good,” he said. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/president-trump-make-post-office-great-again

Embattled Postmaster General Louis DeJoy reversed course Tuesday, saying that all changes being made to the Postal Service would be suspended until after the November 3 election, just as 20 Democratic states announced plans to file federal lawsuits.
DeJoy said that some of the deferred decisions mean that retail hours at post offices will not change, mail processing equipment and blue collection boxes will remain in place and no mail processing facilities will be closed. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, said Tuesday that the Postal Service legislation Democrats are set to introduce soon will include their initial $25 billion ask, as CNN reported Monday, along with Rep. Carolyn Maloney’s bill prohibiting operational changes, which the speaker said is still necessary even after DeJoy’s announcement.
“I don’t want to give the Republicans any reason to vote against this, because we want this to become law,” she said. “We want the President to sign it.”

Postal union leaders doubt recent changes will be fully restored, despite USPS announcement https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/19/politics/postal-union-leaders-doubt/index.html Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced yesterday that all changes being made to the Postal Service — including moving mail processing equipment and blue collection boxes — would be suspended until after the November 3 election, but more than a dozen postal union leaders across the country have told CNN that sorting machines have already been removed, taken out of service and/or disassembled – and in at least once instance told that postal management has told them that the machines are not supposed to be put back to work. Reportedly USPS did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
Meanwhile: “Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is casting doubt on the Senate passing a stand-alone Postal Service bill, even as House Democrats prepare to pass their own legislation.
“I don’t think we’ll pass, in the Senate, a Postal-only bill,” McConnell told the Louisville Courier Journal on Tuesday.
The House is expected to return to Washington, D.C., on Saturday to pass Postal Service legislation. The legislation Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will hold a vote on hasn’t yet been released, but it is expected to include $25 billion in funding for the post office and prevent changes to its operations.” https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/512628-mcconnell-senate-unlikely-to-pass-stand-alone-postal-service-bill
