My Great-Uncle Gus was a “good cop” AFAIK. A NYC copper.
The gig got to him enough that he took early retirement. He and my great aunt moved up to Duchess County down the road from my grandparents. Took a job as a rural mounted letter carrier. I think civil service stuff carried over from the NYPD, somehow. He loved that job about 500% more than being a cop.
How A Nebraska Woman Named Kathryn Bolkovac Uncovered A Vast Pedophile Ring — Run By A U.S. Military Contractor https://allthatsinteresting.com/kathryn-bolkovac
Former Nebraska police officer Kathryn Bolkovac joined the UN Police Task Force in post-war Bosnia in 1999 as an employee of the private military contractor DynCorp. She became a human rights investigator and discovered, to her horror, that people from the mission were involved in human trafficking. Bolkovac blew the whistle and was fired. Her story was the inspiration for the powerful thriller The Whistleblower. (interview) https://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/insight-kathryn-bolkovac-whistleblower-6291533.html
