Data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that the Delta variant of COVID-19 is equally contagious whether it’s contracted by a vaccinated or unvaccinated person…This means that both vaccinated and unvaccinated people are equally capable of transmitting the virus to other people.
Health officials need to acknowledge that “the war has changed,” one CDC slide said. “Given higher transmissibility … universal masking is essential to reduce transmission of the Delta variant…”
…vaccinated people are eight times less likely than unvaccinated people to contract COVID-19. Vaccinated people are also 25 times less likely to be hospitalized or to die from the coronavirus…Symptomatic breakthrough infections seem to be happening among 0.0098 percent of all fully vaccinated people, according to an ABC News study of cases reported by the CDC last week.
Folks have to understand that guidance from health officials has to change when more up-to-date testing against this new variant shows different results from the earlier virus. Of course, the response has to change, too. Here in New Mexico, we’re in the top ten of states with an adequate vaccination rate. Though some vaccinated folks – including my wife and I – had stopped wearing masks, we WILL BE WEARING MASKS this morning when we go to town for our weekly grocery shopping.
Given everything included in the phrase “Santa Fe Style” – I expect virtually everyone we see shopping at Trader Joe’s will be masked.

I think vaccination’s a good idea, but I oppose universal masks and social distancing once you’ve been inoculated. There has to be some risk in life; we can’t live in a supervised daycare/playground as adults all the time. This mad rush for safety is pathetic, the domain and preserve of prime pussies. Say that three times fast!

Read the first 2 paragraphs again!
There comes a point when you have to stop bitching about the willingly unvaccinated and leave them to get their immunity the hard way or get sick. 90% of them will be just fine anyway. You make your choice and reap what you sow.
There does need to be more effort to support those who want to get vaccinated but their economic situation or arsehole employers make it difficult to do.
Ideas like vaccine passports seem to me to be largely culture war bad faith or virtue signalling gone wild, and arguably racist as a hefty proportion of the unvaccinated are black Americans who distrust the medical establishment.
If you want to continue to wear a mask to protect the unvaccinated, there is nothing wrong with that. However, laws forcing you wear a mask even if vaccinated are not going to convince any hesitants or nut bags to take the plunge. Quite the opposite.

And yesterday we hit a new high for infections…higher than the rates at the start of this. No, I won’t back away from trying to move folks towards healthier solutions. Ignoring better methods is as silly as relying on prayer for a healthy outcome. “Hesitant” rates can and will change. Have been changing, regionally more so than the whole nation; but, the usual reasons for ignoring education and science in some vectors in our population are unchanged.
I understand that your motivation comes from a good and kind place, but I really don’t think labelling anyone that won’t take the COVID vaccine a dumb cunt, wether they are or not, is likely to move them towards healthier solutions.
You’d be surprised, then, how often the tack motivates the significant other to push harder. Who wants to be seen as seriously involved with a dullard? :-]
Ha! Don’t think it works the same with strangers though.
