Speaking in Pennsylvania on Saturday, at his first rally since the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago for top-secret material taken from the White House and since Joe Biden used a primetime address to warn that Republicans were assaulting US democracy, Donald Trump lashed out.
The former president said: “The FBI and the justice department have become vicious monsters, controlled by radical-left scoundrels, lawyers and the media, who tell them what to do.”
Trump nominated the FBI director, Christopher Wray, in 2017.
Biden spoke outside Independence Hall in Philadelphia, a site with tremendous resonance in US history, on Thursday night.
Presenting a “battle for the soul of the nation”, he said: “This is a nation that rejects violence as a political tool. We are still, at our core, a democracy. Yet history tells us that blind loyalty to a single leader and the willingness to engage in political violence is fatal in a democracy.”
In Wilkes-Barre on Saturday night, Trump called Biden’s remarks “the most vicious, hateful, and divisive speech ever delivered by an American president”.
The former president was appearing in support of Mehmet Oz, the Republican candidate for US Senate, and Doug Mastriano, the candidate for governor. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/sep/04/trump-rally-fbi-doj-vicious-monsters-mar-a-lago-search

The New York state attorney general filed a sweeping lawsuit Wednesday against former President Donald Trump, three of his adult children and the Trump Organization, alleging they were involved in an expansive fraud lasting over a decade that the former President used to enrich himself. https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/21/politics/trump-new-york-attorney-general-letitia-james-fraud-lawsuit/index.html
James said she believes state and criminal laws may have been violated and referred the matter to the US attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York and the Internal Revenue Service.
As part of the lawsuit, James is seeking $250 million in allegedly ill-gotten funds and to permanently bar Trump and the children named in the lawsuit from serving as the director of a business registered in New York state. She is also seeking to cancel the Trump Organization’s corporate certificate, which, if granted by a judge, could effectively force the company to cease operations in New York state.

A California-based federal judge ordered a legal advisor to President Trump to turn over records tied to Jan. 6 to the House committee investigating the attack, finding the communications were not protected since they were exchanged in likely furtherance of a crime.
Included in the emails is evidence that Trump pushed ahead in court with voter fraud claims he knew were inaccurate – details certain to be of interest to the House Select Committee.
Judge David Carter ordered John Eastman, who crafted two memos for the Trump campaign detailing methods to resist certifying President Biden’s victory, to turn over some 33 documents to the House panel.
That includes eight documents the judge said related to crimes of obstructing an official proceeding and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
“The emails show that President Trump knew that the specific numbers of voter fraud were wrong but continued to tout those numbers, both in court and to the public. The Court finds that these emails are sufficiently related to and in furtherance of a conspiracy to defraud the United States.”

Former President Donald Trump is suing to block a subpoena the House Jan. 6 Committee issued seeking to force him to testify next week.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in West Palm Beach, Fla., Friday evening, argues that the subpoena intrudes on executive privilege still guaranteed to him by the Constitution even though he left office more than 21 months ago. The suit also challenges the committee’s authority on other grounds.
The case has not yet been assigned to a judge.

“As former president Donald Trump‘s legal battle with prosecutors over documents seized during an FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago estate intensifies, the U.S. Department of Justice is lawyering up with an eyebrow-raising new hire in the form of a former law clerk for late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
Sopan Joshi, on loan from the U.S. Solicitor General’s office, has argued seven cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. The DOJ added him to its roster of attorneys as the U.S Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit will hear arguments over the fate of the special master assigned to review the cache of documents on Trump’s behalf.” https://lawandcrime.com/high-profile/doj-taps-former-scalia-clerk-to-help-in-mar-a-lago-document-dispute-as-case-heads-to-court-of-appeals/

“Jack Smith, the special counsel announced by Attorney General Merrick Garland on Friday to oversee the criminal investigations into the retention of classified documents at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort and parts of the January 6, 2021, insurrection, is a long-time prosecutor who has overseen a variety of high-profile cases during a career that spans decades.
Smith’s experience ranges from prosecuting a sitting US senator to bringing cases against gang members who were ultimately convicted of murdering New York City police officers. In recent years, Smith has prosecuted war crimes at The Hague. His career in multiple parts of the Justice Department, as well as in international courts, has allowed him to keep a relatively low-profile in the oftentimes brassy legal industry.” https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/18/politics/jack-smith-special-counsel/index.html
“Attorney General Merrick Garland’s statements on Friday [ https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/18/politics/justice-department-trump-special-counsel/index.html ] and the recent steps taken in the Mar-a-Lago and January 6 investigations have signaled that, at the very least, Donald Trump is under investigation and could potentially be charged with a crime.”

In other news: “Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, said former President Donald Trump started “screaming” at him during dinner at the Mar-a-Lago resort on Thursday and told the rapper he would lose if he were to run in 2024.
The rapper said Trump was “perturbed” by Ye asking the former president to be his running mate in 2024.”

Former President Donald Trump’s bad week is bad news for his comeback.
His family business was convicted Tuesday of criminal tax fraud. On the same day, his hand-picked candidate lost a winnable Senate race in a red state. The House January 6 committee has decided to make criminal referrals to the Justice Department – possibly of him or his close associates. And his call to terminate the Constitution has once again backed Republicans into a corner. https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/07/politics/trump-bad-week-analysis/index.html

  8. Law man says:

“Newly-appointed special counsel Jack Smith is moving fast on a pair of criminal probes around Donald Trump that in recent months have focused on the former president’s state of mind after the 2020 election, including what he knew about plans to impede the transfer of power, people familiar with the matter tell CNN.”
“…Smith takes over a staff that’s already nearly twice the size of Robert Mueller’s team of lawyers who worked on the Russia probe.  A team of 20 prosecutors investigating January 6 and the effort to overturn the 2020 election are in the process of moving to work under Smith, according to multiple people familiar with the team.
Smith will also take on national security investigators already working the probe into the potential mishandling of federal records taken to Mar-a-Lago after Trump left the White House.
Together, the twin investigations have already established more evidence than what Mueller started with, including from a year-long financial probe that’s largely flown under the radar.
“Mueller was starting virtually from scratch, whereas Jack Smith is seemingly integrating on the fly into an active, fast-moving investigation,” said Elie Honig, a former federal prosecutor and senior CNN legal analyst.”

  9. Will C. says:

(CNN Dec 16, 2022): The House select committee investigating January 6, 2021, is expected to announce it will refer at least three criminal charges against former President Donald Trump to the Justice Department, including insurrection, obstruction of an official proceeding and conspiracy to defraud the federal government, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The committee’s final recommendations could include additional charges proposed for Trump, according to the source. The referral recommendations will be presented at a committee meeting on Monday and the final report will provide justification from the panel’s investigation for recommending the charges.

Former President Donald J. Trump on his Truth Social social media platform beginning at 5:49 PM December 19, 2022:
“These folks don’t get it that when they come after me, people who love freedom rally around me. It strengthens me. What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger. Americans know that I pushed for 20,000 troops to prevent violence on Jan 6, and that I went on television and told everyone to go home.

…”The people understand that the Democratic Bureau of Investigation, the DBI, are out to keep me from running for president because they know I’ll win and that this whole business of prosecuting me is just like impeachment was — a partisan attempt to sideline me and the Republican Party.

…”The Fake charges made by the highly partisan Unselect Committee of January 6th have already been submitted, prosecuted, and tried in the form of Impeachment Hoax # 2. I WON convincingly. Double Jeopardy anyone!”

A few minutes after his initial statement, Trump added another:
“Think of it! The Radical Left Democrats (Communists), SPIED on my campaign, lied to the FISA COURT, lied to CONGRESS, allowed an INVASION of our COUNTRY on the Southern Border, EMBARRASSED us in Afghanistan, gave away our Energy Independence, killed us on job losing Regulations, wouldn’t use the 10,000 plus soldiers I recommended for Jan 6th, refused to look into Election Fraud-the reason for Jan 6th, Rigged & Stole the 2020 Election, allowed Ballot Stuffing, FBI/Facebook/Twitter & Biden CRIME!”

Then after a brief pause, Trump added another post:
“….continued from previous TRUTH… And I’m the one that the Corrupt and Partisan Unselect Committee goes after. A two tiered “Justice” System … And, by the way, what ever happened with the Massive number of CRIMES committed by JOE & HUNTER BIDEN? They’re right there, documented and 100% certain. Also, where is the prosecutor from Delaware? What happened to him? Is he friends with the Ukrainian Prosecutor who didn’t prosecute after Biden held up the $BILLION PAYMENT to Ukraine? I DID NOTHING WRONG!” (Newsweek https://www.newsweek.com/jan-6-hearing-live-updates-1768162)
