The Fox News host Neil Cavuto has “begged” viewers to toss out political talking points about Covid-19 vaccinations and get the shot.
“My God, stop the politics,” he told the network’s Media Buzz show…“Life is too short to be an ass. Life is way too short to be ignorant of the promise of something that is helping people worldwide. Stop the deaths, stop the suffering, please get vaccinated, please.”…
Fox News requires staff to be vaccinated or to take daily tests. Some hosts have advocated vaccinations and other Covid precautions.
…The primetime star Tucker Carlson, has pushed vaccine misinformation as part of attacks on public health mandates from government agencies and businesses and the Biden administration’s attempts to contain the pandemic.
Cavuto is immunocompromised, with multiple sclerosis and after open heart surgery. He’s said he expects to be attacked for his appeal. Especially given his role at FOX. I would expect so.
All the more reason to credit him him for his stand.
Pope Francis tested the piety of the powerful recently, and the powerful failed. Judging by comments on social media accusing the Pope of being socialist scum, those who failed most miserably include the so-called “Christian Right” who proudly proclaim their Devotion to Christ in their bios, yet seem oddly unfamiliar with the actual teachings of Jesus.
“That governments and all politicians work for the common good. Let them beware of listening only to the economic elite; may they be servants of those people who ask for land, shelter and work and a good life in harmony with all humanity and creation.”
“It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!” Matthew 19:24
You get the idea.
Zombieland: Double Tap is in theaters. And Donald Trump is president. Coincidence?!
Not according to one theory. In 2009, a “science and pop culture” blogger crunched the numbers and found a correlation between movie monsters and who’s president. When a Republican is president, zombie movies are popular. When a Democrat is in the White House, vampire flicks rule…
Every few years a click-hungry writer resurrects this story. (My turn!) In 2011, Cracked shared “6 Mind-Blowing Ways Zombies and Vampires Explain America.” And in 2017, Huffington Post asked, “Does The Party In Power Determine The Monsters In Our Blockbusters?…”
According to philosophy blogger S. Peter Davis, the dominant movie monster reflects the fears of the party out of power. Zombies symbolize what spooks progressives, and vampires stand for conservative anxieties.
Zombies are the ultimate conformists…Vampires are at the opposite extreme. They’re enemies of “the normal.” As Davis points out, vampires are the ultimate deviants.
RTFA. See if the details make sense to you. Not that very much of American politics makes sense.
Best comment over at gocomics…“Send them up and show them how the airlock works!”
Olive harvest season is under way across the occupied Palestinian territories…Traditionally a festive season, this year’s harvest is once again overshadowed by tight Israeli restrictions, settler attacks and a weaker yield due to harsh climatic conditions.
A study published in 2012 by The Applied Research Institute Jerusalem estimated that since 1967, Israeli authorities have uprooted 800,000 Palestinian olive trees in the West Bank.
In the past year alone, more than 9,300 trees were destroyed in the West Bank, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross…
Besides the physical destruction of these olive trees, many Palestinian farmers in the West Bank require Israeli permits to access their land in restricted areas near illegal Israeli settlements.
Israeli settlements are Jewish communities built illegally on Palestinian land. Today, between 600,000 and 750,000 Israeli settlers live in at least 250 illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Both sides of my family come from a farming history…from Scotland and Canada on my father’s side…from Italy and SudTirol on my mother’s side; but, my youth and adult life is urban and industrial. Till retirement, that is. Here I am in semi-rural northern New Mexico. Still, no farming in my life. But, I understand the needs and pride that accompanies farming life. And fightback against illegal colonial settlers doesn’t require a stretch to get my support.
