The New American Fascism

American fascism will be ultra-American. It will reject the atheism and statism of European models; it will be self-righteous, certain of its own innocence, and understand itself as libertarian. Nativist agrarianism goes to the heart of these American populist mythologies, as it did to the rhetoric of both Mussolini and Hitler, promising to regenerate the nation – to make it great again. It elevates an authentic, preferably rural, national folk and defines them as “real Americans”, while denying first the loyalty, then the citizenship, then the humanity of everyone else. That authoritarian, nativist solutions to political problems did not find traction in the US in the 1930s does not prove that they never could; American exceptionalism did not immunise it against fascism, and it had its own organically fascistic movements that enjoyed popular support and sought entrenched power during the interwar years.

A sound, informative and interesting article. Something the average American isn’t likely to read. Certainly not in their local newspaper. A useful addition to your mental stack of political history and analysis.

Or do you think the bigots, hate-filled profiteers and just plain fools marching behind the figurehead of Donald Trump will vanish in a puff of stage-magician smoke when he finishes losing his re-election bid?

Zombie Trump Supporters

Trump supporters in the US states of Ohio, Michigan and North Carolina who are unhappy with the strict lockdown laws that have been imposed upon them, have staged protests to get the sanctions lifted…

However, the demonstrators in Columbus, Ohio have turned into a comical affair after photographer Joshua A Bickel captured a snap of a group of protestors congregating outside the statehouse atrium…

People immediately noticed that this had a striking similarity to imagery from various zombie horror movies and TV shows like Dawn of the Dead, Shaun of the Dead and The Walking Dead and thus a meme was born.

Yes, the similarity is more than superficial. They share the politics of death.

Trump now deporting kids being treated for cancer!

❝ When you’ve already separated families, thrown children in cages, and held them in conditions that “could be compared to torture facilities,” it’s a bit of a challenge to come up with your next act. Evil takes creativity, and once you’ve forced migrant kids to go weeks without a shower or change of clothes and fed them expired food, it’s tough to continue nailing those Hitler comparisons. Somehow, though, the Trump administration always rises to the occasion…

❝ Severely ill immigrants, including children with cancer, cystic fibrosis, and other grave conditions, are facing deportation under a change in Trump administration policy that immigration advocates are calling cruel and inhumane.

… The program granted stays of deportation in two-year increments and didn’t promise immigrants a future in the United States, just access to care in a time of need, said Dr. Sarah L. Kimball…Boston Medical Center…

❝ …The outrages now come with such regularity that each tends to distract from the last. But it’s important to protest not just these changes, but also their overriding intent: to remove all vestiges of compassion from the immigration system and make life as miserable as possible for immigrant families. Can this administration sink any lower than threatening to deport kids with cancer?

Once again, I see no need whatsoever to separate the fools who continue to support this thug – and the scumbag, himself. We all see what his time in office contributes to diminishing human rights, human dignity. He doesn’t care. I see no reason to believe those who support this fake president and his policies are any different.

Trump Gullibillies expected JFKjr to rise from the dead on July 4th

❝ Donald Trump supporters who embrace the bizarre and outlandish conspiracy theory known as “QAnon” turned out on July 4 in Washington, D.C., for Trump’s speech at the Lincoln Memorial. Many of them believed that the event would see the emergence from a supposed 20-year period of hiding by John F. Kennedy Jr., son of the 35th U.S. president, according to a report by The Daily Beast.

And when JFK Jr,. reappeared, he would declare himself to be an ardent Trump fan and, according to a summary of the conspiracy theory by Rolling Stone magazine, might even announce that he would be Trump’s new vice-presidential running mate in the 2020 presidential election.

Erm. That didn’t happen.

At first, I thought most Trump supporters were of the ignoranus species. That calculation had to be amended to include those irrevocably stupid. Now, I admit we’re simply witnessing the dissolution and reformation of the GOP as an American incarnation of the Monster Raving Loony Party

I know Trump has said this before, so technically it’s hardly new. Still, I mean, it’s…it’s…oh hell:

❝I am going to be the greatest jobs president that God ever created. Remember that. Don’t believe those phony numbers when you hear 4.9 percent and 5 percent unemployment. The number’s probably 28, 29, as high as 35. In fact, I even heard recently 42 percent. Do you think if we had 5 percent unemployment, do you really think we’d have these gatherings?

Yeah, Trump “heard” 42 percent recently. You betcha. Trump hears a lot of things, sort of like Joan of Arc. In any case, I assume Trump keeps saying this because it goes over well with his audiences. Why might this be?

Trump fans are really bad at arithmetic.

Trump fans know an ungodly number of unemployed people in their immediate circle of friends.

Trump fans are really eager to believe the government is lying to them.

Trump fans don’t actually know what unemployment is.

Trump fans don’t really have a clue what he’s saying. It’s just mumbo jumbo delivered with authority, and they love it.

I dunno. Could be all of the above, I suppose.

Seems reasonably inclusive.

Dumbest so-called supporters a football club ever had

Fenerbahçe fans threw flares into their team’s stadium during yesterday’s Europa League second-leg tie against Belarusian champion BATE Borisov even though the game was being played behind closed doors to a previous UEFA ban.

Five people were detained on suspicion of launching the flares into the ground. Fenerbahçe fans had gathered outside the Şükrü Saraçoğlu Stadium in Kadıköy to support their team despite not being allowed to enter the stadium.

Those who sent these flares must be idiots,” said UEFA observer Stefano Farina, adding that the incendiary devices resulted in the burning of the Turkish flag and a fine against the team.

Despite the incidents and the lack of crowd support, the Yellow Canaries managed to see off the Belarusian challenge with a 1-0 victory, giving them a 1-0 aggregate victory.

Meanwhile, the club gets to pay fines, lose ticket sales, penalized for the behavior of dipshit hooligans.
