Herman Cain, dead at 74

“Herman Cain, a former presidential hopeful who was once considered by President Donald Trump for the Federal Reserve, has died after being hospitalized with the coronavirus. He was 74.

Cain had attended Trump’s rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, less than two weeks before receiving his diagnosis.”

A July 2 statement from Cain’s social media accounts announcing his hospitalization said, “There is no way of knowing for sure how or where Mr. Cain contracted the coronavirus.”

I hope those other folks in this photo – enjoying the rally for their Fake President – were all notified after Herman Cain was diagnosed with the coronavirus.

Trump will rally in Tulsa on Juneteenth…Of course!

The remains of Greenwood, the African American section of Tulsa, Oklahoma, June 1921, after a white mob slaughtered residents

President Donald Trump was hit with strong backlash Thursday over his decision to hold a campaign rally next week on Juneteenth, a holiday marking the end of slavery, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the site of one of the deadliest race riots in American history, in 1921.

Rep. Karen Bass…chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, said…”This was a massacre of innocent Black inhabitants by White supremacists in a span of 24 hours”…”This was the worst act of racial violence to date,” she added, “and yet this is the place that the president, who has pursued nothing but a hostile and oppressive agenda for black people since his inauguration, has chosen to celebrate.”

It gets harder, day-by-day, to find anything other than curse words to characterize this Fake President. Elected by fools and collective ignorance – with a dollop of men afraid of women added for good measure, Trump and the GOP used an outdated electoral system to win control of our government after losing the popular vote.

Yes, there’s no shortage of collusion between the two old parties maintaining an election system older than dirt. Still, at least the Democrats had the courage – finally – to walk away from voters stuck into the official racism mandated by Confederate traitors to the American Constitution. Today’s Republican Party wallows in that stink.

Solar Impulse leaving Phoenix tomorrow morning for Tulsa, Oklahoma

Si2 spent a little over a week in Phoenix Goodyear Airport until the mission engineers found a clear weather window to allow the pilots to continue their flights across the United States. After considerable weather and flight path investigations, our engineers have found a slightly unexpected destination: Tulsa International Airport. Bertrand Piccard will takeoff from Phoenix, Arizona on May 12th at 10:00AM UTC, 12:00PM CET, 3:00AM MST and is expected to land 18 hours and 20 minutes later in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

That’s 4AM MDT takeoff for folks in the Rockies. Bertrand Piccard at the helm. Their engineers say they have a clear window of just under 18 hours for a flight that should take just over 18 hours. Phew.

Straight into Tornado Alley.

Peeping Tom sentenced – peeping from inside septic tank under Tulsa city park outhouse

A man who spied on a woman and her daughter from inside the catchment tank of a park outhouse was sentenced Thursday to one year in the Tulsa Jail.

Kenneth Webster Enlow, 52, of Tulsa pleaded guilty that same day to a misdemeanor peeping Tom charge. He had no plea deal with prosecutors.

Tulsa County Special Judge Bill Hiddle sentenced him to the maximum, one year in jail and a $5,000 fine. By statute, Enlow is not required to register as a sex offender.

An arrest report says he watched a woman and her 7-year-old daughter as he sat beneath a permanent outhouse at White Water Park near the Keystone Dam west of Sand Springs on July 7.

According to the arrest report, the woman said she saw Enlow looking up at her after she first noticed the water under the toilet move.

Keystone firefighters got Enlow out of the holding tank and cleaned him with a fire hose.

The dude remained in the Tulsa Jail after sentencing. I don’t think he’s going to try for an appeal. BTW, they couldn’t charge him with a felony because he didn’t take photographs.

Marines make recruiting call on Gay center in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Master Sgt. Anthony Henry, a top Marine recruiting trainer for the southwestern United States, pulled up to Tulsa’s biggest gay community center on Tuesday morning and left his Chevy where he could make a fast getaway. “I have an exit strategy,” he said…

But as it happened, one of the strangest days in the history of the United States Marine Corps unfolded without the protests and insults that Sergeant Henry had feared. Sergeant Henry, who had been invited to set up a recruiting booth on the first day of the end of “don’t ask, don’t tell” at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center in downtown Tulsa, instead spent it in quiet conversation with a trickle of gay women who came in to ask about joining the Marines.

“It’s your business and you don’t have to share it,” Sergeant Henry told Ariel Pratt, 20, who asked whether she would face discrimination in the military as a lesbian serving openly. “But you’re also free to be at the mall with your girlfriend…”

The Marines were the service most opposed to ending the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, but they were the only one of five invited branches of the military to turn up with their recruiting table and chin-up bar at the center Tuesday morning. Although Marines pride themselves on being the most testosterone-fueled of the services, they also ferociously promote their view of themselves as the best. With the law now changed, the Marines appear determined to prove that they will be better than the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard in recruiting gay, lesbian and bisexual service members…

By 5 p.m. the Marines had packed up their booth and chin-up bar and headed out, with plans to come back later to attend a panel discussion. It was all uncharted territory. As Sergeant Henry had said the day before of the new world the Marines now inhabit, “At first it’s going to be kind of shock and awe.”

But like a good Marine, he was with the program: “My take is, if they can make it through our boot camp, which is the toughest boot camp in the world, then they ought to have the opportunity to wear the uniform.”

That the Marine Corps was last in line to support the end of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was as much a function of who happened to be Commandant at the time. History recognizes the Marine Corps as the most progressive of U.S. military services at removing and opposing discrimination.

Which is why I don’t find it surprising that [1] other branches of our military turned down the opportunity and [2] the Marines didn’t. RTFA for details, pride in service.

Crooks w/screwdrivers + woman w/gun = 1 dead, 1 wounded

Picking up the pieces

The victim of a home invasion fought off two attackers early Thursday by shooting both in the head, killing one, police said.

One of the intruders, Darreon Carter, 18, died in a Tulsa hospital. The other, Daniel Holman, 23, is in critical condition, police said…

Capt. Travis Yates said the woman was walking through a dark parking lot about 3:50 a.m. at the Brighton Park apartments in the 4800 block of South Darlington Avenue after a trip to a fast-food restaurant. As she opened her apartment’s door, the men demanded money and forced their way inside.

The woman initially cooperated, but when one intruder told her to undress, she pulled a snub-nosed revolver from her purse and shot him, police said.

A struggle for the gun broke out, and her boyfriend tried to help, police said.

Although she took blows to her head, the woman was able to shoot the other intruder. She fired five shots in all, Yates said.

“It seemed to be a courageous act, protecting their home and their life,” he said. “They were shaken up, but it was sort of impressive — they weren’t hysterical…”

Medics took both men to St. Francis Hospital, where Carter died. Holman remains in critical condition with bullet wounds to his head and stomach, police said.
