Trump’s Industrial Ignorance + 19th Century GOP Fear of “Regulations” = Screwing up new car sales

California wants clean air – Trump wants to burn more oil & gasMelissa Lyttle

❝ The world’s largest automakers warned President Trump…that one of his most sweeping deregulatory efforts — his plan to weaken tailpipe pollution standards — threatens to cut their profits and produce “untenable” instability in a crucial manufacturing sector…

❝ The carmakers are addressing a crisis that is partly of their own making. They had sought some changes to the pollution standards early in the Trump presidency, but have since grown alarmed at the expanding scope of the administration’s plan…

❝ …Trump’s new rule…would all but eliminate the Obama-era auto pollution regulations, essentially freezing mileage standards at about 37 miles per gallon for cars, down from a target of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. The policy makes it a near certainty that California and 13 other states will sue the administration while continuing to enforce their own, stricter rules — in effect, splitting the United States auto market in two.

For automakers, a bifurcated market is their nightmare scenario. In the letter to Mr. Trump, they warned of “an extended period of litigation and instability” should his plans be implemented.

The ignoranus in the White House has little or no understanding of governance for the good of the whole nation. Falling over himself to kiss corporate butt, he only succeeds in screwing up regulation in a complex industry. Production side as well as marketing and distribution. You can’t run the auto industry like a real estate office. And he didn’t do that well, either. Amassing a fortune through bailouts and bribes ain’t skill.

The Gobshite American President

Liam McBurney/PA

❝ Making his opening remarks at a joint press conference at Shannon Airport on Wednesday, Donald Trump, who had just flown across the Irish Sea on Air Force One, brought up Brexit and said, “I just left some very good people that are very much involved with Brexit, as you know.” Varadkar, a staunch pro-European, gave a mute nod. Since taking office, almost two years ago, he has spent an inordinate amount of time dealing with the potential fallout of Brexit for Ireland, including the tortuous question of what will become of the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic, which has been largely dismantled since the Good Friday Agreement of 1998 secured a fragile peace on the Emerald Isle. If the border issue doesn’t get resolved to the satisfaction of all parties, it could lead to the unwinding of the agreement, which would be a tragedy for Ireland.

❝ …Oblivious as ever, Trump went on, “I think it will all work out very well, and also for you with your wall, your border. I mean, we have a border situation in the United States, and you have one over here. But I hear it’s going to work out very well here.”

❝ According to Miriam Lord, a sketch writer for the Irish Times, there was “a quiet gasp” from the Irish contingent in the room when Trump said “your wall, your border.” Throughout Ireland, the dismantling of the concertina wire and military fortifications that used to disfigure parts of the line of demarcation between the twenty-six counties of the Republic and the six of Northern Ireland is seen as a massively welcome development. These days, countless people from both countries cross the border unimpeded to work, shop, or visit friends and family. Varadkar, his face a mask, didn’t react immediately. Then he reached out his right hand toward Trump and interjected politely, “The main thing we want to avoid, of course, is a border or a wall between both sides.”

I cannot describe our Buffoon-in-chief, the Fake President, as anything other than an ignoranus. Yes, he’s joined by the millions of Americans who rely solely on the proto-fascist propaganda machine calling itself “Fox News”. Even a modicum of those benighted fools are aware enough of Ireland’s history to avoid blather so utterly stupid.

It’s truly difficult waiting around for the wheels of justice to grind through the cast iron fossils guarding the White House against summary justice. I look forward to being able to send this political criminal a gift certificate for a delectable “hamburder” from the Danbury Federal Penitentiary commissary.

Fake President’s hate speech on Wind Power is “Idiotic” says Iowa GOP Senator

❝ Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley — a champion of the wind energy tax credit — said President Donald Trump’s comments that wind turbines cause cancer were “idiotic” in a call with reporters Wednesday.

“I’m told that the White House respects my views on a lot of issues,” Grassley said. “(Trump’s) comments on wind energy — not only as a president but when he was a candidate — were, first of all, idiotic, and it didn’t show much respect for Chuck Grassley as the grandfather of the wind energy tax credit.”

❝ Speaking at a Republican fundraiser Tuesday night, Trump discussed wind turbines and energy policy.

“If you have a windmill anywhere near your house, congratulations, your house just went down 75 percent in value,” he said. “And they say the noise causes cancer. You tell me that one, okay?”

There is no evidence showing the sound from wind turbines causes cancer…

Idiotic? Where would you expect to hear this crap but from the village idiot in the White House.

Trump and His Know-Nothing Party Declare War on LED Light Bulbs

Trump’s next great idea

❝ It’s one thing to oppose the grandiose “Green New Deal”…It feels like something totally other to oppose narrow regulations that could advance the campaign to swap out incandescent light bulbs for light-emitting diode (LED) lighting, a small, practical step that, multiplied into the millions, would passively remove a healthy chunk of energy-eating pollution over time…

Are all Republicans as stupid as Trump or simply more thoroughly owned by cretins who want to return to the days of coal-fired everything on Earth?

❝ A Washington Post editorial argued, “Swapping out all the old incandescent bulbs across the country would save an astonishing amount of energy, which would translate into big savings for consumers and less pollution over time. But Republicans stymied the Obama administration’s efforts to pursue this policy, which has no downside, and the Trump administration is now using its power over federal efficiency standards to extend the rollback.”

It was in 2007 that Congress mandated a shift toward the LED light bulb. As manufacturers invested in manufacturing lights that use these updated technologies, the prices dropped, the bulbs improved and consumers saw lower energy bills for doing very little.

❝ By 2020, all bulbs were supposed to be LEDs, including bulbs for candelabras, recessed lighting, heavy-duty applications and others added in the latter days of the Obama era. The Trump administration moved last week to eliminate those additions, despite the fact that the 2020 standards would have saved consumers billions of dollars per year and 140 billion kilowatt-hours in energy waste—the equivalent to the output of 45 coal-fired power plants—in 2025…

Sounds to me like the mostly correct assumption that Trump supporters are ignorant, prefer their ignorance over progress even if change would save money and aid a healthier lifestyle…governs the Republican boffins afraid of alienating the clods whose admittedly distorted votes put him in office.

Call it the ignoranus vote`
