Trump’s tame postmaster may not know how much trouble he’s in for “losing” ballots

Drama is building between U.S. District Judge for the District of Columbia Emmet Sullivan and Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. The United States Postal Service (USPS) on Tuesday afternoon failed to comply with Judge Sullivan’s order requiring the agency to perform “sweeps” of mail certain processing facilities to verify that all mail-in ballots have been processed. The USPS claimed that it was unable to comply with the order due to a lack of time and personnel to abide by the required terms.

After the USPS filed their response with the court at 4:30 p.m. to report on the matter, Judge Sullivan issued another order. The judge said USPS should be prepared on Wednesday to discuss its “apparent lack of compliance” with the order [emphasis ours]…

Attorney General Barr lies for Trump; but, he really sucks at it

❝ There was never any doubt that Attorney General William Barr would be more loyal to Donald Trump than to the American people. Trump would not have chosen him for the job if he were not…

His boss isn’t a man who values truthfulness. And, frankly, Trump isn’t even a politician who lies particularly well. So a “skillful liar” was never implied in the job description for attorney general. A “stupid liar” was.

❝ Barr began entangling himself in a web of lies in March when he released his four-page summary of Robert Mueller’s report to Congress. He cherry-picked phrases from the 448-page document in an attempt to vindicate the president, even using Trump’s favorite line in concluding that there was “no collusion.”

Barr must have known, or at least he should have known, that he could not get away with such a shallow and dishonest interpretation of the special counsel’s two-year investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election…

❝ Perhaps that never mattered to him at all. Maybe he knew that if he were to be called before Congress to explain his lies, Republicans would have his back just as fiercely as they have Trump’s…

What Barr and his Republican cohorts never expected, though, is that Mueller would call him out on his lies.

An American cartoonist has been fired for being mean to Trump

❝ Rob Rogers has been the editorial cartoonist for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for more than 25 years. Most working cartoonists have had an occasional idea spiked by his or her editor. But in the past few weeks, editorial director Keith Burris and publisher John Robinson Block have refused to publish six of Rogers’s cartoons, all criticizing Trump or his policies. Block and Burris have also rejected many of Rogers’s rough sketch ideas for several months.

This wasn’t the first time Block has used his position to defend President Trump’s actions; in January he demanded an editorial run in the Post-Gazette and the Toledo Blade (where he is also the publisher) supporting Trump’s use of the term “shithole countries.”

❝ Through satire, humor and pointed caricatures, editorial cartoonists criticize leaders and governments that are behaving badly. The purpose of an editorial cartoonist is to hold politicians and powerful institutions accountable — and we all know how little President Trump thinks he, his family or his sycophants should be held accountable. Rogers was the first American editorial cartoonist to lose his job as a result, but he won’t be the last. Trump has many “fixers.”
